What will be covered in my student's Albany ISEE class?

There are four versions to the ISEE, which are the Primary Level, Lower Level, Middle Level, and Upper Level. The Primary Level has three versions of its own: Primary two, three, and four. Like stated before, the version your student takes depends on what grade level they will be entering. Students entering 2nd grade take Primary two. Students entering 3rd grade take Primary three. Students entering fourth grade take Primary four. The Lower Level is taken by students entering 5th or 6th grade. Students entering 7th or 8th grade take the Middle Level ISEE. Lastly, the Upper Level is taken by students entering 9th grade and above. All versions have lots of content that is covered, so let's go over them so you and your student can better understand the ISEE.

The first version of the ISEE is the Primary Level. Primary Level two is the only version to have an Auditory Comprehension section. The section has six questions with seven minutes to complete the section. The student will listen to passages and answer questions based on the content of the passages. The passages can be fiction or nonfiction. All levels of Primary have a Reading section, Math section, and an Essay sample. The Reading section has students answer multiple choice questions on reading comprehension and vocabulary. The Math section accesses your student's abilities in math and its operations. Finally, the Writing sample shows the student a picture and they are asked to write a story based off of the picture. This section is not scored, but it is shown to the school your student is applying to for them to see their writing ability and personality.

The next version up in the ISEE is the Lower Level. The ISEE has five sections, which are Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Math Achievement, and an Essay. The concepts for Verbal Reasoning are using context to complete a sentence and common vocabulary for elementary schoolers. This section is 20 minutes long with 40 questions. Topics for Quantitative Reasoning are estimation, comparison, and number logic. Concepts your student should know about are numbers, addition, multiplication, subtraction, division, probability, and geometric objects. Your student will have 35 minutes to complete 37 questions. Some topics covered in Reading Comprehension are Main and Supporting ideas, vocabulary, language, tone, and style. Your student will need to know how to find the main idea of a passage, locate important information, and use information in passages to answer questions. They will have 35 minutes to answer 36 questions. The topics covered in Math Achievement are measurement, probability and analysis, geometry, algebraic concepts, operations, and whole numbers. Your student will need to know about fractions, decimals, estimation, basic 2 and 3-dimensional figures, simple operations, and symmetry. Your student will have 40 minutes to answer 47 questions. The last section is the Essay. Your student will have 30 minutes to answer a prompt. This prompt will be interesting to their specific age group. The Essay will help the school be able to learn more about your student.

The Upper and Middle levels of the ISEE have the same time frames, sections, and questions as the Lower Level ISEE. Topics and concepts are just more complex and tailored to their age groups.

How will my student benefit from an Albany ISEE class?

There are lots of benefits in enrolling your student in an ISEE class. One benefit is that an ISEE class is held in a collaborative, online environment. We know that your student most likely has a very busy schedule. From school, extracurriculars, and family time, your student's life can be very hectic. With an online class, however, your student can enjoy flexible class times with no commute. New classes start weekly. Your student can participate in a class that runs for two weeks or four weeks. You and your student choose what fits their schedule best. You can start your class once you choose your options. A virtual classroom makes classes easy and convenient for both you and your student.

In an ISEE class, your student will emerge into a live, interactive class session. Your student will have an instructor and live classmates to interact with, making the virtual classroom feel like a traditional, in-person classroom. An ISEE class instructor is knowledgeable on the test and can cover topics in depth. If your student is stuck on a math question, for example, they can also reach out to the instructor for extra help outside of class sessions.
