My teaching style allows students to visualize what they are learning and apply it to familiar circumstances. This allows material to sink in and be retained long term. When material is described in a manner a student can relate to, it's more understood and that familiar example is better remembered in a testing situation.
I have experience teaching a Biology Lab for non-science major college students from freshman to seniors. It was the experience that ultimately showed me what I was capable of sharing information and how much fun it was. Education to me is something that should be enjoyed. If one is not enjoying what they are doing, what's the point?! I love science particularly because it allows a hands on experience, where involvement and stimulation creates motivation and questions. I like to have fun with what I learn and pass on the experience to those I teach/tutor.
In addition to my experience in a college classroom, I do in-home therapy work with children with disabilities. For the last two years I have been working 20 hours a week with a 7 year old boy with severe Autism. Our time spent together ranges from jumping on the trampoline or going bowling, to working on school work and improving understanding of material, and even behavioral/habilitation therapy including sibling interaction, self calming techniques and expressing his everyday wants and needs.
To me, receiving a quality education is the key to opening the door to one's future. It creates the potential to reach goals and stir up motivation previously unknown. A good teacher has the power to change a child's life by showing them they are capable of reaching goals they never thought possible. Motivation like this starts with just a spark of knowledge, a guess at the right answer, and a push in the right direction and that starts with a tutor that loves what she does, and is passionate about the information being relayed. A tutor like me!
