Certified Tutor
I completed my education at Texas A&M University and the University of Phoenix. I received my Bachelor of Science in Business-Hospitality Management and my Masters of Business Administration (MBA). I am extremely passionate about education and personal growth and strongly believe that an educated world is a better world. If I can help with that mission in any way, I'm excited and motivated to do so. Since I was in elementary school, I was always the "go-to" girl to help others in my class. I have found that I have a natural gift for helping people feel good about themselves (kids and adults alike) and have translated that gift in my work as a tutor as well as my career. Although I am knowledgeable in many academic areas, my favorite subjects are English and Mathematics and I have found that my excitement about these subjects is why I am so successful in helping others improve in these areas. I cater my teaching style depending on each student's learning style. Because everyone learns differently, I find it extremely important to get to know my students in the very first session to ensure that we will both be successful in reaching our goals. In my spare time I enjoy reading, writing, traveling, camping, and music.

What is your teaching philosophy?
In all of my experience in both teaching as well as learning, I try to remember two things: one, it is crucial to cover the course material; however, I believe it's more important that students learn skills than things; and two, that skills are learned best through an interactive teaching style that challenges their abilities and requires their participation. I am not a teacher, I am a learning partner, as I learn just as much from my students as they learn from me. I structure my teaching around my students' needs and I strive to help students learn to think logically, learn problem-solving methods, and improve writing skills. My ultimate goal is to provide enough tools and processes to my students that they will no longer need me. As the Chinese proverb states, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
My first session with a student will include an icebreaker so we can have a little bit of fun and get to know each other. Understanding what the student likes or dislikes in their personal life allows me to apply real-world concepts to the subjects he or she is learning. We will set goals and expectations (for both myself and the student) and go over the subject matter we will be learning.
