Hello, my name is Emmanuel! I am a holder of a High School Mathematics Teacher's Diploma with over 6years teaching experience in High School Mathematics. I also have a Ph.D in Geosciences from Virginia Tech. After my Ph.D, I continued in Virginia Tech as a postdoc where I designed and taught a Mathematics in Geosciences course. I am currently transitioning to another postdoctoral position in UCDavis. My main interest is to apply my mathematical and programming knowledge to develop geodynamic models of continental deformation. I earned my Master's Degree in Geology at Oklahoma State University.

My teaching strategy is mostly student-centered and is based on a combination of the transparency teaching and differentiated instruction approaches. The differentiated instruction approach involves providing all students within the same classroom a range of different avenues for understanding new information by adjusting lessons to accommodate the diverse learning abilities of the students. I generally adapt my lessons based on the complexity of the topic being taught, classroom climate, and the students' needs. The transparency teaching approach involves making obvious the intellectual practices involved in completing and evaluating a learning task in order to promote students' conscious understanding of how and why they learn a course content in particular ways. I mostly implement the hands-on student-centered approaches particularly inquiry-based learning. In my implementation of inquiry-based learning, I actively interact with students by encouraging them to ask questions while emphasizing that no question is a "stupid question". I believe in the importance of constant interaction with my students through interactive lecture demonstrations and in-class discussion, with credits for in-class participation.

I am available to tutor a variety of subjects in mathematics and programming, and I can also help my students prepare for both the verbal and quantitative sections of the GRE. I am also ready to teach both college and graduate level geoscience courses as need arises. I look forward to working with you!
