If you are a prospective medical student, you are likely getting ready for the MCAT. A Minneapolis MCAT prep class provided by 51Թ can be a great way to get ready for test day. Almost all American medical schools, including the University of Minnesota Medical School, require you to submit MCAT scores as part of your application. Your MCAT results will affect the impression you make on admissions boards. The MCAT will require you to demonstrate a broad knowledge of chemistry, biochemistry, physics, psychology, sociology, as well as the workings of cells, human bodies, and living tissue. You will also be asked to use general critical thinking skills. The scope and significance of the test can put a lot of pressure on prospective medical students, and it can be difficult to know how to begin preparing for the MCAT. Whether you're looking for a prep course to provide you with a collaborative environment where you'll work with other medical school applicants or would be more comfortable with a private tutor, 51Թ can provide options to suit you.
What material does a Minneapolis MCAT prep course cover?
The MCAT, or Medical College Admission Test, is a standardized multiple-choice exam that will assess you on an array of medical knowledge that medical schools consider vital to your ability to excel in their programs. The exam is computer-based, and you can expect to remain seated for seven and a half hours to complete all the sections. The test subjects include Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems; Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills; Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems; and Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior. We'll take a quick look at each of these sections here.
For the Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems section, you'll have 95 minutes to answer 59 questions. These questions will cover how the biological mechanisms of how human bodies function and the biochemical and mechanical systems that underlie them. You'll be tested on organic and inorganic chemistry, biochemistry, physics, and biology, and asked to apply these subjects to human organ systems and tissues.
In the Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills section, you'll be given 90 minutes to answer 53 questions. These questions are based on a set of 9 provided passages, which will cover a range of topics. You do not necessarily need to have foreknowledge of these topics though, as they are not the true subject of this section; instead, this section is meant to test your ability to read and comprehend an English-language text, as well as your ability to apply analytical reasoning to the text. You'll be asked to infer knowledge from the passages, re-contextualize information from the passages, and understand how new information might affect the meaning of a passage.
Next, the Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems section of the will ask you to answer 59 questions in 95 minutes. The focus of this section is the processes of living organisms, such as growth, reproduction, the maintenance of homeostasis, adaptation, metabolism, and so on. You'll answer questions on how cells and organs interact with each other in systems, as well as how they function as solitary units.
Last is the Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior section. You'll again have 95 minutes to answer 59 questions. Here, the questions will assess your knowledge of mental health and human behavior and how they are impacted by social systems, as well as your ability to meet the medical needs of a diverse population. This section covers basic psychology and sociology. Scoring well here will require you to understand cultural and social issues and how they relate to human health, as well the effects of social and psychological systems on human perception and behavior.
What can Minneapolis MCAT prep offer me?
When you're looking for help with Minneapolis MCAT preparation, you can choose between a prep class and a private tutor. Both have benefits, and you may find it advantageous to use a combination of both. Your personal preference is the deciding factor. Here, we'll take a look at the options available to you.
First is the prep class option. In a class, you'll find yourself in an interactive online classroom led by a qualified instructor. Group discussions can be very helpful in strengthening your content knowledge and test-taking skills, and learning alongside other prospective medical students can expose you to new and valuable viewpoints. Working with other students has also been shown to improve information acquisition and retention. These online classrooms function just like a brick-and-mortar classroom: classes are taught live, and you'll still see, hear, and talk with your instructor and classmates while participating in group exercises and covering exam material in depth. An online class has definite advantages. The convenience of an instant online commute is not to be overlooked, and scheduling is flexible. New classes start weekly, so you can find a class that works for your lifestyle and schedule.
However, if you'd prefer one-on-one tutoring, we still have you covered. This type of prep can be provided to you over a live interactive internet platform if you prefer the convenience this offers. If you'd like to work with your tutor in person, you can meet face-to-face at a location of your choice. A private Minneapolis MCAT tutor allows for a personalized experience that focuses closely on the subjects and skills that matter most to you, that spends less time on material that you're already confident about, and dives deeply into those areas you feel need work. If you are strong in the physical sciences but feel concerned about how you'll do on questions related to behavior and social systems, for example, a private tutor can help you develop a plan so that you can aim for success on the MCAT.
How can I find Minneapolis MCAT prep?
Whether you opt for a prep class, a private instructor, or a combination of both, there are a variety of options to fit your needs and schedule. Reach out to 51Թ today, and we'll be happy to find the best Minneapolis MCAT prep solution for you as well as provide more information about the services we offer. The MCAT might be intimidating, but the right preparation can be a step towards your medical school goals.
