What will I review in a Syracuse GMAT course?
An instructor can help you gain a better understanding of how to approach the four major sections of the GMAT. These sections are the Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Verbal Reasoning. Let's take a look at each of these to get a sense of what they entail.
The Analytical Writing Assessment is a computer-based task that will require you to critically analyze an argument. In the thirty minutes that you are allotted for this part of the test, you must read an argument and provide an organized response to it. In order to succeed in this section, you must be able to evaluate the argument at hand and formulate a coherent response with specific examples to support your point.
In the Integrated Reasoning section, you will be required to interpret information from graphs, analyze tables, and solve equations. Essentially, this section of the exam will test your ability to take in data from several sources, integrate it, and apply it towards the solution of complex problems. Additionally, you will be required to solve two-part analysis problems, in which you must analyze trade-offs and evaluate relationships that exist among data. You will have thirty minutes to complete this section of the test.
The Quantitative Reasoning portion will test your ability to solve mathematical and analytical problems. You will have to apply your reasoning skills to solve complex problems. Further, you will need to exercise data sufficiency skills. This means that you should be able to identify the bits of data that are relevant to solve the problem. This portion of the test consists of thirty-one multiple choice questions over sixty-two minutes.
When you get to the Verbal Reasoning section of the test, you will be required to solve thirty-six multiple-choice questions in sixty-five minutes. In this section, you will have to read passages, evaluate their content, and draw inferences and relationships from what you've read. You'll also be required to respond to critical reasoning problems, which will test your ability to evaluate and develop effective arguments. Furthermore, you will need to answer questions about grammar and proper sentence structure.

I am a finance and accounting professional at a Fortune 100 firm with an MBA and currently pursuing the CMA. My teaching method would absolutely vary depending on the student. Visual learners need different kind of help than non-visual. For visual learners, I would try to paint a picture of the problem or formula so it is easier for them to understand. For non-visual, I can stick more with formulas, numbers, and memorization. ... To get the student not to simply memorize how to get or find an answer, but to help them reach a level of confidence and preparation that makes the material seem second nature to them.
