This lesson uses the book
Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type
by Doreen Cronin to teach students word identification strategies. Through shared readings, teachers and students read and reread the five notes from Farmer Brown and the animals with fluency and expression. With repeated teacher modeling and guided practice, students learn to identify rimes or word families and apply their knowledge of these words to the decoding of new words.
A readers' theater script of the book.
This 4-page handout asks students to read a newspaper article about urban cow art. Students design their own cow using the same approach the original artists used. Access requires Adobe Reader or compatible application.
