The Mitten by Jan Brett

Students will describe animals as they review nouns and verbs associated with these animals. They will learn to use adjectives as they describe the animals. They will use this knowledge to write their stories about animals. This lesson uses Brett's book The Mitten and is designed for first grade.


Students will analyze such literary elements as plot, cause-effect relationships, sequence, and prediction in Jan Brett's The Mitten . Students will enjoy predicting upcoming story events and retelling the story from a dialogue that shows a text-to-self relationship.
