School just never came naturally for me, and I often felt incompetent, unmotivated and embarrassed to ask for help. Thankfully, I had wonderful teachers, mentors, and tutors along the way that helped me master the strategies and techniques that worked best...

ERB CPAA Tutoring FAQ
The Educational Record Bureau's Childrens Progress Academic Assessment (CPAA) is a computer-based exam used to test the mathematics and language arts abilities of students in pre-kindergarten through second grade. If you're concerned about how your child may perform on this test, ERB CPAA tutoring may be able to help address your worries. A skilled tutor can meet with your child, assess their skills, craft a personalized learning plan based on your child's specific academic needs, and tutor them in the content areas covered by the ERB CPAA.
The ERB CPAA is adaptive, allowing it to provide an accurate assessment of each student's abilities. This means that if your child performs well on a question, the exam will next present a more difficult one, while missed questions will result in easier questions being offered. If answering questions successfully, your child will encounter increasingly challenging queries and tasks, which can be frustrating if your child is unaccustomed to the test's format. A personal ERB CPAA tutor can help prepare your child for this test format by modeling the testing environment and providing your student with increasingly challenging questions in the areas of math and language arts. This solid understanding of the format is just about as important as your student knowing the content covered on the exam. Your child's tutor can provide visual imagery, particularly for young children, and integrate games and activities into each session to stimulate learning and keep your child from becoming overwhelmed.
If your child struggles with mathematics or numeracy, he or she could benefit from ERB CPAA tutoring. A skilled tutor can review the fundamentals of math, use objects and illustrations to demonstrate subtraction and addition, and assess your child's math abilities during each session. If your child has a hard time with language arts, a tutor can review phonics exercises with younger children, and cover reading comprehension with students in more advanced grades. In addition, your child's tutor can assess their listening skills with exercises tailored to their specific level.
Your child's ERB CPAA tutor can provide preparation and practice, and can conduct assessments, the results of which can complement what your child learns in class. A major advantage of one-on-one tutoring is that your child's level of mastery and natural learning pace are at the center of each session. Instead of being in a class with other students spanning a range of academic aptitudes, private tutoring can focus on your child's particular academic needs and provide a strong foundation in language arts and math upon which your young student can build in future years.
Skills assessments, practice, and preparation are just some of the benefits of working with an ERB CPAA tutor. In addition to working at your child's individual pace, they can arrange lessons at the best possible time, at the most convenient location. A tutor can even meet in you and your child's home, if that is the easiest option. They can accommodate a shifting schedule, so sessions can be at different places and times each week, or an online meeting can be set up if your child's schedule is that hectic. The 51Թ live learning platform allows your child to meet with a private tutor either in person or face-to-face online. This gives you the flexibility to have your child meet with his or her tutor at the time and location of your choice. The main goal is to prepare them for an exam that can have a major impact on the next phase of their academics.
The ERB CPAA and other assessments are important to gauge your child's learning, but it's also crucial to use these exams to improve their knowledge and skills. Recent ERB CPAA Tutoring Session Notes
During this session, we reviewed the essay he completed for homework. He had some trouble with numerical agreement and he introduced new ideas at the end, so we discussed and corrected those. We then moved on to a persuasive prompt. He outlined an essay response to the prompt and I checked it over. We then reviewed all of the strategies we have discussed and that he has been implementing in his work. I reminded him of how much better his writing is when he plans and outlines it.
During this session, the student and I spent most of the time working on the writing section. We went over some of the different types of multiple-choice questions and then discussed an essay that he had written for one of the practice tests. I had him score his own essay, so that he could gain a better sense of where he needed to improve. We also began to work on some vocabulary words.
Good session. The student was prepared for the session and was able to begin explaining how to do the problems to me. We only covered math today. I assigned her chapters to read from the math sections and from another book.
The student and I went over her ACT results and put together a study plan for the weeks leading up to her next test. We also identified weak areas in math, reading, and science that she can focus on when she studies. She is willing to do whatever it takes to bring up her score, and I am sure her score will improve with regular study.
The student and I had our first session today. He impressed me with his abilities on the English section, and we graded his practice test and discovered that his weakest area right now is actually the Math section, so that's where we'll start next time. In the meantime, he's now been introduced to Long Smooth Underline, first- and second-pass question reading and the principles of each of the four tests.
The student hadn't completely finished her homework so we went through the several sections that she had finished and she did very well for the most part, but still struggled with some of the difficult math questions. We spent a length of time reviewing math. For several sections I timed her through selected problems. She has become much better at the easy and medium questions though, usually getting a high percentage of these problems correct. When she has enough time she can work through the harder problems, and we will work on performing these calculations quicker in the future.
