This was our first appointment together. We wasted little time with small talk and went quickly into 1) reviewing the worksheets I sent him last week and 2) covering material that had been discussed in class. With regards to the worksheets, he easily handled most of the problems assigned to him, and the few that he missed were due to him making small math errors rather than a lack of knowledge. This indicates that he has a solid background in the math that will be utilized throughout the course. We moved on to homework that was assigned to him and began reviewing new terms that were introduced. We discussed each term individually and how they make sense mathematically. Once the concept of complementary, supplementary, congruent, and adjacent angles were explained to him, he was able to work through the problems without much assistance. I recommended that with new terms and with new notation he should try to write them down and should practice speaking them out loud. Once he understands what the question is actually asking, then he will be able to succeed with the course. Overall, this was a very productive first session and I look forward to watching him excel.

We worked on the student's calculus homework assignment on calculating volumes with cylindrical shells revolving around the x or y-axis. This is her last homework assignment before her final next week.

We covered several old AP calc questions regarding slope graphs as well as lightly covered the Euler's method of solving for differential equations.

We reviewed for the AP statistics exam that the student will take on Friday. We worked practice multiple choice and free response problems from previous practice exams. We'll continue to strengthen his understanding of the practical interpretation of confidence intervals and hypothesis testing, as well as understanding the fundamental use of statistics in making inferences about the general population. We also discussed the basics of experimental design and the use of different kinds of sampling.

We covered specific questions that were missed initially on her finals review. The student just needed some refreshment on how to solve some of the algebra problems. I left an algebra quick review sheet to aid her in studying. The session started slow but ended up working out great.

The student and I continued to cover topics in geometry. This session, we covered triangle congruency, angle pairs, and equations of circles. We went through the concepts completely, and he felt confident he could do the example problems on his own.
