Certified Tutor
For the last several years, I lived abroad in several parts of Southeast Asia, I have since returned back to New York , whist living abroad I taught English at a Cambridge certified International School. I helped students achieve praise worthy marks in IGCSE, A-Level, and IELTS examinations. I can also assist you in other exams such as TOEFL and TOEIC. I especially like tutoring students in improving their English writing skills, following a Writing Process method, and in Conversational English, focusing on fluency and communicative competence.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
The first step is to determine why they are struggling. Is it a lack of fundamentals, a vision problem, or lack of interest.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Determine their end goals and tailor the class to fit their needs.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I would determine the topics that best interests them and focus the class based on the topic. As well as find out what their VARK learning style is.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Well, I like to ask a lot of concept checking questions, or have the student do an activity.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Positive reinforcement and constant validation of their progress.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I perform an individual needs assessment prior to the beginning of the first formal lesson.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
Students' needs and goals rarely change, but their learning style is the most important. Tailoring a class to the learning style will allow for adaptability.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Audiovisual, textbooks, and student-generated activities.
