If you're searching for professional Memphis LSAT prep services, 51Թ can set you up with two great services to help you feel more prepared on exam day. The LSAT (Law School Admission Test), is a standardized exam written to emphasize the skills needed in law school and to practice law. It is the only high-stakes exam accepted by all ABA-accredited law schools, including The University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law. If you hope to attend law school, putting your best foot forward on this exam is a must.
Unfortunately, many students find the LSAT completely overwhelming. That's where we come in. If you want expert instruction in a classroom setting, we can find you a Memphis LSAT prep course to help you pursue your full academic potential. If you would rather study in a one-on-one learning environment, we can find you a private Memphis LSAT tutor instead. Enroll in either service today and experience the difference that professional test prep can make.
What content areas does Memphis LSAT prep typically cover?
The LSAT is a digital assessment with four sections. The first three (Reading Comprehension, Analytical Reasoning, and Logical Reasoning) have multiple-choice formats and are completed on a special tablet. While it may feel unfamiliar to tap on your answer instead of clicking on it, the tablet comes with several features installed to give you an edge on the exam. First, you can highlight text as desired. Second, the included timer has an automatic five-minute warning. Finally, you can flag challenging items to make them easier to circle back to if time allows. These four sections (there are two Logical Reasoning sections on every test) are scored on a scale from 120-180.
The last LSAT section is Writing, and it is taken during a completely different testing session from the rest of the exam. Your essay is not scored. Instead, it is sent to each law school you apply to as a writing sample. Here's a closer look at each section on the test.
Reading Comprehension
The examination's Reading Comprehension section uses long-form selections to mirror the types of material that lawyers work with frequently. You are expected to be able to identify the main idea of a piece, its supporting details, how extraneous factors such as tone and organization may influence a reader's perception of it, define words and phrases through their context, and infer information beyond what is directly stated in the text. Your testing tablet's highlighting function is particularly useful here, so don't neglect to use it.
Analytical Reasoning
The assessment's Analytical Reasoning section measures a test-taker's understanding of the structure of relationships, including how to draw conclusions using them. You need to recognize logically equivalent statements, reason through conditional statements, and infer what could or must be true based on the information you have. If you worked with logic problems in a math class before, these are structured similarly.
Logical Reasoning
The LSAT Logical Reasoning section is all about completing and analyzing arguments, which is a key component of the legal profession. Some of the skills you need on this section include drawing valid conclusions, reasoning by analogy, recognizing misunderstandings, identifying logical flaws in a case, and examining how hypothetical evidence could impact a situation. Since there are two Logical Reasoning sections, this section has the same weight as those above combined.
Writing
Finally, the LSAT's Writing section contains an essay prompt that presents test-takers with a decision problem and two possible solutions. You need to choose one of them and write an essay defending your decision. Your opinion is not relevant to the law schools evaluating your work, as they are interested only in factors such as your use of evidence, command of English language mechanics, language choice, clarity of expression, and organization.
What Memphis LSAT preparation options can 51Թ help me find?
If you choose to take a Memphis LSAT prep class, you'll attend weekly class sessions on a live virtual platform that will make you think you are sharing a physical classroom with your instructor and classmates even if you are miles apart. Real-time interactions are supported, allowing you to ask your instructor or a classmate for help just as easily as you could in a physical class. You can also meet with your teacher privately outside of class hours for extra help if you feel the need.
There are many benefits to working with other students. First of all, you all split the cost of your test prep to make it more affordable for everybody. More importantly, you can challenge each other and create a collaborative learning environment to deepen your understanding of LSAT concepts. For example, classroom debates can help everybody learn how to leverage evidence in an argument. You can also assign positions randomly to force yourself to look at a situation differently than you otherwise would.
If you would prefer private instruction, a tutor may be a better choice for you. A one-on-one instructor can adjust their methodology to your preferred learning style, helping to enhance your study efficiency. You can also study at your preferred pace with a private educator. For example, a student who excels with Analytical Reasoning questions probably doesn't need to spend that much time on them during their test prep.
Similarly, many students take practice tests with their instructor to develop a greater familiarity with what they can expect on test day. If you consistently answer a particular type of question correctly, it may increase your self-confidence on that section during the exam. If you're having a rough time with a section, you know where you need to focus future study sessions. Either way, you'll go into the exam with a better idea of what you need to do.

I tutor the LSAT because I know it's a hard test and I know what it's like to struggle with it. However I also understand the process necessary to produce better scores, and nothing is more satisfying to me than helping someone achieve what seemed impossible a few months ago.... Your score is a product of so many factors--your understanding of the material, your speed, even how accurately you bubble answers--but in the end it all comes down to whether you studied the test from every angle and put in the time necessary to get the results you want.
