We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Phil in Glendale, AZ
It was a good session with the student. We spent our session on doing test corrections for a previous exam to get some credits to bolster his grade. He missed some details on the exam itself, so both calc and non-calc sections should be moved up to B's at least, and one possible A. Nice work!

The student and I worked on his English assignment on "Things Fall Apart," We also looked over his assignments for the coming week, as he has a big World History exam on Monday and an English quiz on Friday. I will be sending him extra study materials for the English exam so he can practice.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Alicia in Glendale, AZ
The student appears to be a bright student with an overall grasp on his academics. His lowest grade is in World History (low 70s) and he believes this is due to disorganization. He had a folder for each subject but he had far too many papers jammed in each of them that were no longer necessary to keep. He and I went through each folder and kept only the necessities. He was not using his weekly planner but I have encouraged him to make use of this tool. We discussed upcoming assignments and tests and put them in the planner as well as created events in his phone to remind him of upcoming tests. We discussed his daily schedule and decided to include a study hour from 7 to 8 pm (just after dinner) as well as one more hour over the weekend. I set a recurring alarm for the weekday study hours.

We worked on graphing equations and calculating the slope of lines. Both students were incredibly quick to catch on and were completing problems autonomously by the culmination of the session. We are going to continue working on slopes next week.

The student did well tonight, as we mainly worked on his organization skills, specifically keeping his binder/folder organized with all of his work in it. Additionally, I helped him with his English and biology homework.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Reginald in Glendale, AZ
The student and I covered organizing his in-class assignments and homework in his binders in a manner that would be conducive to helping him keep track of his work and enabling him to locate items more effectively. We also worked on improving prioritization skills and time management. We discussed strategies for completing his Life Science reading comprehension assignments, resolved recurring issues with sharing homework and information using the school's learning management system, and worked on identifying some of the more common literary devices (theme, characterization, tone, irony, symbolism, imagery, etc.) in his reading ("The Outsiders"). I also worked with him to outline the summary he will be writing in tomorrow's session. The primary win from this session is that we devised a strategy for maintaining organization of his hard-copy in-class and homework assignments.
