French 2 Tutoring FAQ
As you advance in your language studies, the complexities of learning a foreign tongue become increasingly evident. In French 1, you acquire many of the rudimentary vocabulary terms and grammatical structures needed for basic conversation in French. In French 2, you are now expected to move on to increasingly complex manners of expression and conversation, allowing you to communicate in a way that is increasingly useful but likewise increasingly difficult. Providing yourself with outside assistance can help you succeed in French 2 and set the foundation for continued success in upcoming years of language study. Contact 51Թ to discuss your tutoring options for your French 2 needs, and you can be connected with an independent French 2 tutor based on your level of ability, learning style, and even your personality.
Your tutor is highly skilled at teaching foreign language. Their experience and patience mean you can learn at your own pace, from someone who is able to work on whatever level you are at. Flexibility is another benefit, as not everyone can easily fit French tutoring into their busy life, but your French 2 tutor can. They'll schedule sessions whenever it is most convenient, because they know that French students have other classes and may work part- or full-time in addition to having any number of other commitments. Meetings can take place in the most convenient of locations -- a library, coffee shop, your home, or even at a French cafe. They can even work with you face-to-face online through our live learning platform if need be. Within a flexible schedule, your instructor will focus on the ultimate goal of working towards improving your skills. The goal isn't just to succeed academically, but also to master the language on a personal and social level.
One critical but difficult aspect of this second year of French instruction is its increasing conversational complexity. Although French 1 is often characterized by its many practical exercises for basic conversation, French 2 begins to stress the variable forms that basic conversations can take. These various topics require you to interact with other French speakers to craft and understand discussions that are applicable to a variety of situations and topics. Without conversational practice, it will be difficult to master French on this level. In fact, you can consider your tutoring sessions to be true interactions that build your linguistic skills, move you on the path to becoming fluent in French, and improve your chances of success in the class.
While you can practice such skills during class, it is also necessary for you to practice outside of the classroom. Such practice is best done with an interlocutor who can interact with you as well as provide a helpful source of criticism when necessary. Such guided practice is absolutely necessary for success in acquiring the language, and a personal French tutor is the best source for such help. Although French grammar may not be as difficult as that found in other foreign language courses like German or Latin, it is still an important part of this stage of your language education. However, there are many aspects of French grammar and syntax that are not found in English, often causing stress for beginning language learners. Personal French 2 tutoring can focus on exactly those areas that need the most attention, guiding you through the increasing difficulties of French grammar, which will continue to influence your studies in coming years of French classes.
Given the progressive, compounding nature of language courses, don't risk your future success by overlooking the help that can strengthen your grasp of French conversation and grammar. Contact 51Թ today to be connected with an independent French language instructor.

Recent French 2 Tutoring Session Notes
We worked on preparing her for a speaking quiz/test over talking about and describing 3 family members. She received the results of her major test from Tuesday and thought the tutoring was helpful in preparing her for it.
The student and I spent the entire duration of this session working on active listening and translation of phrases including greetings, introductions, taking leave, numbers, work station vocabulary, and masculine and feminine forms of the same noun. His progress was notable from beginning to end of this session.
I spent a lot of time today teaching the student past tense that uses etre, instead of avoir. I gave him a list of all of the verbs that use etre, and explained the agreement that is necessary for these verbs. He is learning food in class, so we spent time talking about his favorite fruit, or what he generally eats for breakfast. I taught him the verb prendre: to have food or drink, and the use of voudrais (a conjugation of vouloir), to say that you would like something.
Reviewed verb tenses that the student is currently working on at school. Performed additional exercises on the subject. Assisted student to complete worksheet that was assigned as homework by his school teacher, ensuring he would think through the answers to make sure he understood where and how to use the different verb tenses.
Assisted student with online homework, again ensuring he would think through the answers before responding.
Student read out loud from his textbook to help with his pronunciation and we discussed the subject matter to enhance his reading comprehension.
We went over some of the student's flashcards that had been made prior to the session and she had memorized them all perfectly! She has a quiz on Friday so we then went through her book and made flashcards for all the words that could potentially end up on the quiz. We then spent a good portion of the session memorizing these new words. By the end of the session she had them all down! We also had time to have some short conversations in French.
The student has a French final on Friday, so we spent half of the session preparing by reviewing passé compose, subjunctif, and imparfait. He has a good grasp on all, with just a little extra memorization needed to be ready for his final. We then worked on an Algebra II test correction over polynomial equations, factoring, zeros, and exponential expressions.
